Opera Season in Full Swing!

8/26/2010

Its almost fall and with Labor Day comes the beginning of opera season. As many of my clients know I am a hair and makeup artist for Opera San Jose, San Francisco Opera and San Francisco Ballet.

Tonight, Thursday, KQED is airing San Francisco Opera's production of Madame Butterfly. I am fortunate to have worked with this Opera and just want to say its a gorgeous, heartbreakingly beautiful show. Its a great opera for people who know little of opera. Catch it if you get the chance.

I am currently working on SF Opera's new production of AIDA. I will be out of the salon and in San Francisco during the shows.

Beginning September 2, I will begin hair and makeup with the crew from Opera San Jose for the premier of Anna Karinina. This opera is a brand new production and I am honored to be apart of both SF and SJ's teams.

As hectic as it can be juggling the schedules, I truly LOVE and appreciate the opportunity to work for two stellar Operas. The crew for these operas are dear to me and I look forward each year to seeing everyone I havent seen for months. Working in the theater gives me the chance to step out of reality and into a fantasy! Its truly the most amazing thing to take an actor and transform them into a character. I am surrounded by many wise, talented and incredibly creative people who inspire me, challenge me and mentor me in the art and craft of theater hair and makeup. I cant say thank you enough to my friend and mentor Tim Santry, Wig Master and designer for Beach Blanket Babylon and Senior artist for SF Opera/Ballet. Betty Poindexter, Principle Makeup Artist for Opera San Jose, San Francisco Opera and costume and makeup Professor at San Francisco State University, Sarah Beukers, Director of hair and makeup for Portland Opera and Opera San Jose, and Larry Hancock Executive Director for Opera San Jose. You have all given me so much! I will never take for granted the knowledge and opportunity you have given me over the years.

I will keep you posted on dates for upcoming shows, but for Opera San Jose, we have a phenomenal season with huge shows.

The Agony of Waiting!

8/24/2010

The new salon IS happening! Sllllooooowwwwllyyy! My goodness, I never imagined what opening a bigger space would entail. Contractors, Architects, Leases, Attorneys, City Inspectors, Permits, Banks, money, money, money! WOW!

We are however in the final stages of our financing. Things always cost a LOT more and take Twice as long than ever anticipated. Its a huge learning experience, one that must be experienced to learn. There are owners manuals for opening a new salon. You just gotta go through it to figure out what works and what does not.

The design is beautiful, spacious, modern and bright. There will be six stations, 4 color stations, 5 shampoo sinks, a gorgeous reception area, changing room, color room, etc etc, blah blah. Its real pretty. I'll just leave it at that. Oh, and it will HOPEFULLY open early November. Arrrgh, the City of San Jose can be a small business owners enemy. Makes no sense, but fact it is.

Currently Joe and I are booked like crazy. We are incredibly humbled by all the positive response to our work. I am so fortunate to do the work I love with people I truly love and respect. Please be patient, if you cant find an appointment online please call the salon. Currently we are booking out about 2-3 weeks in advance, but there is always the last minute cancelations.

Theres not really much more to say. Joe and i will be headed to London in the fall to train at Vidal Sassoon. The entire staff (4) will be certifying in Brazilian Blowout on Sept 13th. We are currently training for services that will be on the new salon menu.

Thanks to ALL of the people who have supported us. Its really amazing to me.

Happy Anniversary

7/17/2010

We just celebrated our 1 year anniversary here in Japantown! It has been a fast and furious year! As we look forward to the next year in our new location I personally want to thank all of the loyal clients who have made this little salon a big success. A very special thanks to the clients who have been here from day one. A very very special thanks to Carol, Frank and Jasmine Rast and Max Sanchez and all the gang at Roy's Coffee Station You have all been so kind, so helpful and so welcoming. I think you represent all that is great about Japantown and all that is great in the world. We are lucky to have you here and I wish you a great future full of abundance and happiness.

Arrojo is a HUGE HIT! Our clients are extremely pleased with our new line and it has flown off the shelf. Curl Cream, Hair Repair Masque, and Texture Paste are the HOT sellers! We are currently out of them, thats how much people love them. It was great spending time in NY, NY with Nick and his crew. I look forward to returning with staff in tow this fall.

Speaking of fall, Joe and I have chosen to attend the Alternative Hair Show in London this October, followed by a week of training at Vidal Sassoon London! AH, a trip to the Mecca of Hairdressing! This would be the fulfillment of a life long dream.

I would like to introduce our newest team member Ashley Garcia! She comes to us from the prestigious Academy For salon Professionals. A Redken Partner School located in Santa Clara. I have had the opportunity to be one of Ashely's teachers at the Academy and am so happy to welcome her to Orange Crush as a peer! Her dedication and personality make her a wonderful person to be around. She, Joe, Trudi and I have all known each other for years so it feels like we are welcoming a friend to the salon. Ashley has a passion for color and texture. Our goal is to make her our Texture Specialist in the new salon, focusing on Yuko Straightening, Brazilian Blow Outs, Extensions. Of course she will still provide excellent cut and color services as well. Ashely is a calm presence and a wonderful balance to Joe and I's hyperactivity! We all wish her the best and hope for a long happy career here with us.

Not much to report on the new salon except I am meeting with my contractor JD Stager tonight. Once construction begins its out of my hands. Thats the hard part. Patience is not one of my virtues. Dealing with the city of San Jose for permits has challenged what little patience I have. But its out of my hands and in the hands of an awesome contractor. When theres more progress, I will post it.

Moving Forward

6/30/2010

Work is beginning on the new salon this week. Its very exciting to see the design process come together. Spending time in NY at ARROJO really inspired the design of our salon.

Lonnie and Nick

Nick Arroyo and Lonnie in New York

Nick's use of space and materials has created a welcoming space that is modern but not cold, welcoming and sophisticated. I hope to bring in some of the elements ARROJO incorporated into their salon. It's all very exciting. What is important to me is that we keep the intimacy and warmth of our tiny salon while providing space to stretch out. The new salon will feature a color processing room an open salon floor with a two waiting areas, a "gallery space" where we can still feature local artists. The salon will be expandable and modular allowing for growth and reconfiguration when necessary.

We have started the interview process and have some great potential candidates lining up! We all look forward to building a dynamic team. Staffing has been a difficult task this last year. However this time the response to our ad has been incredibly positive. We have our first assistant candidate shadowing today. YEAH!

Our new product line is fantastic! Nick said that he and his staff were very involved in the development of each product and it shows in the result. ARROJO products work! I am very impressed with the results of every product I've used so far and it seems the clients are as well. We will be returning to NY often over the next year to build our relationship with ARROJO and bring back the latest cutting, coloring and styling techniques while continuing to learn all that we can about the products.

Many exciting things are on the horizon and the salon is buzzing. I could not ask for more than that! Please stay tuned!

Home From New York

6/22/2010

Landed this afternoon around 1:00 pm. This was a short, grueling trip, but one I will never forget. Having two days with Nick Arrojo and his team was more than awe inspiring. Not simply the challenge of learning their techniques for cut and color, but to have the chance to sit and speak with Nick about his salon, to see his vision created.

The salon is very hip, very big and contains an awesome cafe-bistro inside. He also has a full cosmetology school, advanced academy, product line, huge office staff, warehouse and marketing,30 assistants and many, many stylists and colorists. I think he is a genius, visionary and truly one of the most dedicated, hard working people in this industry. His approach seems so simple and straight forward. Do what you love, surround yourself with people who love it as much as you and stay inspired by sharing what you know with others. I had the pleasure of taking a class with both Nick and his wife. Both have a strong foundation in classic Vidal Sassoon technique. Yet both fuse their love of texture, razor work and simplicity to keep hair fresh and modern. I wanted to be a sponge and absorb everything I could in a short few days. The salon is very welcoming, the stylist very approachable and no one in the class ever felt they were not getting what they paid for. Nick himself is humble, gentle and a master stylist. I am heaping a bunch of praise on a person who is so down-to-earth. But I can say that in the million years I have been doing hair and the hundreds of hours of classes I have had, this was probably the most hands on, intimate and I left feeling inspired and charged. I even left with a haircut.

We are happy to carry ARROJO products. Because the person behind these products has the integrity necessary to put his name on the bottle. We look forward to more classes in NY and I look forward to teaching my young staff everything I brought back from this workshop.

We are in the very early stages of major growth. The new salon is a reality and we are working feverishly to create a welcoming space that has form, function, style and incorporates the latest technology this Valley has to offer. We welcome the challenge, invite the growth and really look forward to sharing this with all of our clients.

If you are new to the salon and are reading this blog for the first time. Welcome. Currently we are growing so fast that our books are filling rapidly. Speaking for myself, I am currently booking up 3 weeks in advance and more for weekends. If yo would like to get an appointment with me, please check the schedule and plan a few weeks ahead. If you are impatient and cant wait, well, we all are, so do not hesitate to phone the salon, I may have had a last minute reschedule or cancelation. My point is, it never hurts to call if you cant find something sooner.

We will keep you updated on the status of the new salon as new information comes in. Work has begun and we are making progress. Our hope is to open by fall.

Greetings From 35,000 Feet!

6/19/2010

As I write this blog entry I am in flight to NYC. Access to the internet while watching CNN, I LOVE Virgin America Airlines! They have successfully achieved in only a short few years what most of the major U.S carriers have not. Excellent service, very comfortable planes, access to the internet, great food and drink options and most of all Friendly Flight Attendants! Richard Branson, the founder of Virgin is fearless visionary who built an empire against all the odds. He took risks that upset so many of his business partners and investors they abandoned him. He challenged both the major record labels and the worlds major airlines. Many, Many people balked at his ideas, considered him foolish and irresponsible. I doubt that anyone is laughing at him now! Virgin Galactic will be the first commercial space aircraft that takes paying passengers! What a genius!

I am in NYC until Tuesday to train at ARROJO Studio. As we are now an ARROJO Signature Salon I believe it is important to educate the clients on the benefits each product. To speak with authority on the subject we must completely know the products, their contents and uses. Products are crucial to a finished look. They are responsible for giving the hair that extra something special. I'm looking forward to a few days of cutting and color. My entire philosophy regarding my career is that only through continuous education, constant practice and sharing the knowledge with others can I truly be a great stylist. I look forward to al that I learned back to the staff ad ultimately to the clients.

Jojo will be teaching a workshop on the advanced color techniques he learned while attending the Wella Studio courses. We will post a model call when the date is closer.

I will be hosting a Cut and Color workshop in July on Razor cutting and Creative Color.

We are sending Trudi to Vidal Sassoon this summer to train at the best! She will be attending the ABC course. We are all very excited.

My contractor met with the salon owner this previous Thursday. Things are moving forward. More to come.

An Update at Long Last!

6/15/2010

Once again its been ages since we have updated this blog. Generally we like to wait for major news to announce. Eventually this blog will be dedicated to hairdressing tips an tricks, stylist announcements, event notices etc. However since we are so small and incredibly busy we like to use the blog to keep our great clients updated on the changes at Orange Crush Studios.

I have been meeting with my contractor and the new building owner almost weekly. The new salon is moving forward. We are currently in the design process, working with the blueprints, architectural plans, etc. Our goal is to create a space that feels expansive yet intimate. Every detail is being looked over carefully to assure a smooth transition from our current space. As much as I would like to give an estimated move date, the truth its really up to the city of San Jose's permitting process, the ability to have our inspections done in a timely manner and having the equipment ready to install. It is so very exciting for us. As soon as I get more information I will attempt to give a date for the opening.

Having said that, we will begin the process of hiring new talent when we get the green light. Our goal is to begin stylist training and staff development long before the actual opening. We take education very serious. It is what inspires us, supports us and nurtures our creativity. I am very fortunate to currently have two of the most wonderful people on the planet working at Orange Crush. We have developed an atmosphere of respect, trust and happiness that makes our little place a joy. As a new salon owner I have learned the value of happiness, the pricelessness of discipline. What is most important to me is genuine love of hairdressing. I am thankful everyday to have Trudi and Jojo with
me. My dream would be to find five or six more of them:) So stay tuned for further progress reports on the new space.

ARROJO is in the HOUSE! We are happy and proud to announce that we have ALL of the ARROJO products in the salon. These are exciting, affordable, quality products created by an awesome group of people and personally I am thrilled to be apart of their vision. If I could find one person I could have the chance to follow around for a few days it would be Nick Arrojo.

On that note, I am headed to NYC this weekend to attend a two day cut and color inspiration class at ARROJO Studio. I was planning to go in August, but with the new salon, and the fact that its hotter than Hades in August I felt it would be better to go now. Also I feel its important to know the product line and the people behind the line. What I hope to bring back to the salon is not only the technical experience from attending the advanced course, but also the passion, inspiration and creativeness. Nothing is more fulfilling and career building than to attend advanced training with mentors you aspire to become.

Jojo is still in LA at the Wella Studio. Judging from his texts he is experiencing the best advanced color training he has ever had! Money well spent! I look forward to his bringing back his knowledge and teaching us and giving the clients the very best we have to offer!

Its MAGIC!

Vacation, Education, Location

5/26/2010

We are proud to announce that we are now carrying WELLA as our color line! After careful consideration the staff has chosen WELLA because we believe it is a superior line with an outstanding reputation, brilliant results, a spectacular array of color choices. WELLA provides incredible support and education for its stylists and holds its educators and representatives to very high standards. The company has two dynamic education studios in New York City and Los Angeles and offers a diverse range of color, cutting and product knowledge classes to stylists from all over the world. We are truly excited about our relationship with WELLA and look forward to sharing this excitement with our clients. Our past experience with our previous color/product distributor was horribly disappointing to put it nicely. But that is the past and we are now focused on a very exciting future.

Lonnie will be on vacation from Thursday June 3rd to Thursday June 10th.

On that note we would like to let our clients know about the summer education trips our stylists will attend.

JoJo will be in Los Angeles June 13th - June 17th to attend advanced color training at the WELLA Studio LA. His 5 days will be completely devoted to mastering the advanced principles of WELLA Color.

While JoJo is already a dynamic colorist, his desire to master his craft and bring his clients and Orange Crush the latest, most up-to-date color techniques illustrates his discipline, dedication and love of hairdressing. Jo is a true professional and it is an honor to have him on this tiny team. He is a natural leader and fantastically talented. I can say without doubt Jo will be a recognized leader in this industry and someone to watch out for.

Lonnie will be in NYC from August 15th - 17th and August 22nd - August 31st attending WELLA Master Colorist training at the awesome studio at 30 Rockefeller Plaza. THis course is an intensive seven day training to become a WELLA Certified Master Colorist. There are several levels to this process and each level requires extensive training, hands-on and written exams and mastery of every aspect of color theory, chemistry, formulation, application techniques, corrective color knowledge, color consultations, procedures etc. As the salon owner it is my goal to bring all of this back to Orange Crush and teach our team everything I learn. This creates continuity, elevates confidence and directly benefits each client that walks in the door.

In addition to the color courses, Lonnie will be attending a two day course hosted by Nick Arrojo at his studio in Manhattan. This is an inspirational course that focuses on styling for editorial, avant garde, styling covering trend awareness and taking traditional styling to the creative level. This is the stuff I LIVE FOR!

LAST BUT NOT LEAST

WE ARE GROWING! We are currently in negotiations with the owner of a new property located within a short distance of the current salon. Our tiny salon is nearly one years old and has out grown its baby clothes! I have been very careful about the selection of the new salon location so as not to inconvenience our dear clients who live within walking distance. My dream is and will always be to create a warm neighborhood salon where every client feels welcome. We have succeeded beyond my wildest dreams and I am so humble and grateful to everyone for the support this last year. The new space will be 1,200 square feet of modern graciousness. We hope to offer our clients expanded services and amenities, space to spread out and wander, a larger staff and the same hospitality! Since there have been many false starts to my finding a great space, I will refrain from announcing where the location is until all the ink on the contracts is dry! But rest assured we are growing. Its exciting, unnerving and makes me giddy, but I will hold the tongue until the deal is done!

New Partnership

5/8/2010

We are pleased to announce our new partnership with ARROJO a dynamic new product line from "What Not To Wear's" Nick Arrojo. Beginning the first week of June, we will proudly carry Nicks new products. We are one of the few salons to be approved to carry the line and we are honored and excited to be a part of Nicks Vision.

As such, all of our staff will be heading to NY for training at Nicks Studio in Manhattan.

We have also partnered with Wella as our new color line and will integrate this at the time ARROJO goes on the shelf. Wella is one of the worlds most respected color lines. Our staff will be training with Wella in LA this July.

Last, but not least we are so very honored to be the first salon in San Jose, CA to carry the new men's product line created in San Francisco. Hans De Fuko is a unique and fresh grooming line specifically geared for men!

Cherry Blossoms Blooming

3/25/2010

The Cherry Trees of Japan Town are in bloom. Signaling a return of spring. With that comes renewal, growth and change. As I look around the salon, it barely resembles the bare space I started with. The walls are covered in beautiful art. There is furniture that did not come from my garage. We are bustling with clients and staff. For awhile this winter, I felt I would be working alone. Having two stylists come and go quickly only amplified that feeling. Now we are a team of dedicated artists, our clientele has grown by 400% and we feel very much apart of the Japan Town community. All of my initial fears of failure are starting to subside as I watch the studio blossom.

We are working feverishly to update the salon. Joe has brought a fresh eye and wonderful taste to the design and I am grateful to have him. Trudi is truly one of the kindest, most dedicated people I have had the honor of mentoring, working with and knowing! She has stood by me when others have bailed. I only have great wishes for her and to see her skills, knowledge and confidence grow is what gives me the courage to tackle the irrational fears that pop up daily. I admire and adore both Trudi and Joe for their dedication to the craft of hairdressing, for their creative energy, for their fearlessness and for supporting this little studio and my vision of what I want it to become. As the studio grows and succeeds they both will share in rewards of hard work and faith!

Alyce Vazquez's work is up and gorgeous. Already clients are buzzing about her art and we look forward to her opening tomorrow night. If you are reading this, please come by and support local artists. I am so happy to have her work here and believe that great artists find their audience at the local level. Come and meet Alyce and enjoy her work along with wine and food and beautiful, creative people. Friday 8 PM - 11 PM.

Sake San Jose is coming in MAY! Presented by Yu-Ai Kai Senior Services, the event gives ticket holders the opportunity to enjoy Sake tastings hosted by Japantown businesses. Orange Crush Studios is proud to be a host and will open our doors from 5:30 - 8:30 for patrons to enjoy unique sake's along with light food. Travel down Jackson Street to other great shops for more sake fun. All proceeds benefit the Yu-Ai Kai Senior Center. The opening ceremony will feature the dynamic, world renown San Jose Taiko! Come see them before they leave on their U.S. tour.

Tickets are $40.00 - pre-event/ $50 day of.

Last but not least, on behalf of the staff at Orange Crush, I would like to wish Chester and his entire family and San Jose Tofu our deepest condolences and sincere blessings for their loss. It is a true pleasure to know you and my heart goes out to you. Heiwa.

Photo Shoot - Artist Reception

3/23/2010

Our shoot with Vang Studio went AMAZING! Jen is a truly gifted photographer with an excellent eye! jo2 and I spent the day at Ocean Beach in San Francisco. The weather was beautiful, the location excellent. We had the honor of working with some amazing up and coming talent. Our makeup artist Nikki and our Fashion Stylist Jackie were spot on. A few of the pics are up on our site, but stay tuned for the rest.

Likewise our photos from our shoot with Jacob Easton from J Easton Photography are up as well. I feel so lucky to meet and work with such awesome people. I want to thank Jacob, Heather as well as my good friend Danny for assisting. He really jumped in at the last minute when I needed an able body assistant who takes direction well.

Alyce Vasquez is in the house! Her work was hung on Sunday and looks magnificent! For everyone wondering why the walls were so bare, this is the reason. She is well worth waiting for! Alyce's reception will be Friday March 26th from 8 PM to 11 PM, there will be food, drinks and gorgeous people, so feel free to stop by. If you miss the reception, her show will be here until the end of April.

Joe is rocking the salon. His energy, creativity and passion are contagious! We are so happy to have him here and even more delighted that he is booking up quickly! I am awestruck by his discipline and motivation. Joe can do hair! He is well beyond his years in talent and intuition.

Soon Alyssa and Karen will be joining us. Along with my right hand Trudi we will now make a team of 5! I will no longer be cutting hair on Sundays. I wish to spend time tending the business and building the staff. Each Wednesday will be staff training from 10 -2. My goal is to develop the stylists and assistants through education.

Remodel is moving along well.

Salon Closed Tomorrow

3/20/2010

Orange Crush Studios will be closed Sunday 2/21. We will be in San Francisco styling hair for a photo shoot. This will give our next artist Alyce Vazquez time to hang her work. We will reopen Tuesday with normal business hours.

Joe and I are fully booked today, thats a great thing to say! I am extremely proud of Joe and so grateful the salon is doing so well. The next few months will be very exciting as we slowly bring on all of our new staff. Likewise the remodel is moving forward slowly. Thank you to each client who has supported us during the renovation. We are operating without taking out loans, so it takes a bit longer to finish, however this keeps the salon out of debt and allows us to keep our prices modest.

Since we have a big back yard we have decided to bring our pups to work beginning Wednesday. Joe with his poodle Snowflake and myself with my two new puppies Lola and Pickles. We have created a play area for them which keeps them out of the salon but able to see us via the baby gates. I had been wanting to bring the girls down, but felt like it would be too stressful by myself. Joe actually had the idea of creating a play space so the dogs can socialize without being in the salon. Since the weather is nice and warm and since we both work so late it seems like the perfect thing. So they will be here to cheer us on 4-5 days per week.

The wonderful thing about living and working in Japan town is that it feels like a small village inside a big city. The neighborhood is friendly, people are out on the streets, clients stop by just to say hello. Businesses really care about each other and support the community. Its great to ride my bike to work, go to Roys for coffee and say hello to everyone. Its just a great place to live and work. The salon is really settling into the community and becoming what I dreamed it would be. I do not take this for granted.

Thank you to everyone!

Spring Is Here!

3/19/2010

Its now been a week since my fantastic new stylist Joe started. He has been fully booked every day he has been here. Yesterday we actually had more clients than we have styling chairs. Our assistant Trudi was literally shuffling clients around while Joe and I cut and colored our hearts out. We left the salon at 10:00 PM. This is a dream come true and I am one Happy salon Owner.

When I began the interviewing process I expected it to be an easy task. The salon is busy, we are in a wonderful store front location in a great neighborhood. I thought I would have no trouble finding motivated staff. WoW what an eye opener! The pickings were slim and after two months I became so frustrated and disheartened I simply gave up. I remember telling a client that if it is meant to be someone will walk into the salon and I will know instantly whether or not they are the right person. A week later, completely out of the blue Joe came in. Having been a protege of mine and knowing Joe's background, skill set and more than anything his love of this industry I was flattered and proud that he found Orange Crush.

A few days later I receive a resume from a girl I knew several years ago at the San Francisco Institute of Esthetics and Cosmetology. Also a former student, I really jumped for joy because she comes from a very familiar background and understands the language, techniques and philosophy of JPMS. We are currently a Paul Mitchell Focus Salon and having Karen come on board supports that. Karen is bringing with her years of apprenticing at a very successful Palo Alto Salon. Additionally she is a sweet heart. Kind, beautiful and incredibly disciplined.

Finally Alyssa stopped by with her resume. Alyssa is a newcomer to the industry but has set her goals quite high! She is young, very stylish, soft spoken and eager to be the best. And she resides right here in Japantown. What luck! Alyssa and Karen will come on board beginning the first week of April. Including myself and my dynamic right hand assistant Trudi, Orange Crush Studios will be a team of five.

Artists Reception: Alyce Vazquez will be the featured artist beginning March 26th. This is a very exciting show by a major up and coming talent. Alyce's work is big, colorful, complex and perfect for the salon. Alyce has done many shows and we are so honored to host her work here in our humble studio. This is one of the most exciting artists I have had the pleasure to meet. Her work brings some much needed color to the walls of Orange Crush. After our last show we moved into warp speed renovation mode. During these last two weeks we have had no art on the walls and I must say it makes a huge difference seeing the walls bare. Many of our clients have asked if we are painting the walls! What a difference art makes.

We are proud to host the artist reception for Alyce Vazquez on March 26th.

CLOSED SUNDAY MARCH 21st.

The studio will be closed this coming Sunday, March 21. Joe and myself will be in San Francisco working on a photo shoot for Jen Vang Photography. Jen's work is edgy, very editorial with beautiful structure and composition. We are delighted to work with her.

NEW STYLIST!!!!

I am honored and proud to introduce Orange Crush Studios new talent!

Joe Gilbert is one of the most talented, devoted and honest stylist/people I have ever had the pleasure to know. His keen eye, attention to detail and creative intuition are so advanced its hard to believe he's only 20 years old. I see Joe as a natural.

Having been in this industry for over twenty years, having been an assistant, stylist, senior stylist, master stylist, instructor, director, mentor, salon owner, theatrical stylist, blah, blah, blah, I can say with certainty that Joe, or as he likes to be known jo2 is a rare talent. He has a focus, discipline and hunger that even many seasoned hairdressers never possess. His lack tolerance for mediocrity, sloppiness and poor work habits in himself and in this industry is refreshing and inspiring. His mature understanding of what it takes to be a great stylist, artist, human being is remarkably present in every thing he does, and yet his youth and enthusiasm makes me want to be a better person!

It would be great if I could say these things about everyone I interview. And I've interviewed many people. Today I feel like the luckiest salon owner in the world! Honestly, I had given up on interviewing for staff because I could find no one who really cared about the craft, the profession, the dedication. I simply told my clients and friends that when the Universe is ready they will send the right people through the door. Those people will say the "magic words" the words I've been waiting to hear for 8 months. Until then, I will stop running Craigslist ads. And sure enough those people have appeared.

There are two more wonderful people joining jo2 and I in the next few weeks. When they start I will announce each of them. But for today, its jo2's day and I am so happy!

The salon is STILL in the remodel state. Due to the high volume of clients we have limited hours available for my contractor to work. So I'm hoping the salon will be done by the end of the month!

To all of our clients who have been incredibly patient through the chaos of the construction, THank You, THank You, Thank You. We are working feverishly to make you feel more comfortable and to create an environment that is happy, welcoming and bursting with talent.

Progress Report

3/10/2010

Our new bathroom is in! JD Stager did an awesome job. The new restroom is beautiful, modern and spacious. His attention to detail and sense of style really impressed me. From the paint, the tile and the fixtures, the space is bright and happy.

We are now moving to the salon itself. This will take a bit longer than we thought. The salon will be structured to allow for maximum comfort for both client and stylist. We have ordered new reception furniture, new cabinetry, shelving and finally an amazing new art show! The art is big, bold and incredibly colorful! This is one of the most exciting artists I have met and I am honored to host her work beginning next week. Stay Tuned for the date of the opening party.

I am happy to announce I have hired new staff. Orange Crush is growing! I have one stylist who will begin next week and another at the end of March. We also have a new assistant starting at the end of March. It has taken months to find the right staff but I believe the staff I have chosen will be a great asset to the salon. Again, stay tuned for introductions in the next few days!

Thank you to all of our clients who have supported the salon. Everything I am doing is for you! Those who have seen the salon grow since the beginning will be greatly surprised when the final results are done! I am so proud of our growth, our reputation and the new staff.

Construction Underway!

3/1/2010

Came in this morning to haul out a load of garbage and found the salon windows papered up, the walls torn out and construction material everywhere! YAY! That means its really happening.

By the looks of it on the outside it looks as if Im closed. Hee Hee:) JD has papered everything up and its great knowing people walking by cant see whats going on. We are getting new tile today for the restroom, lighting and painting this evening. And my job now is to make sense of all this stuff.

Its amazing that in 8 months this little salon could accumulate so much junk. Not all junk, but enough to fill my truck up twice. Its mostly shelving, old tiles, the old bathroom, sink, etc. I will haul it all home and sort through it. Hopefully before the next storm.

Interviewing a stylist this morning at 11. So things are moving and thats a beautiful thing.

Fantastic Photo Shoot

2/28/2010

We worked from 1:30 to 10:00 PM on this awesome shoot. 3 models, each with 3 looks. Essentially it is equal to 9 clients.

The studio was truly amazing. One of the best I have ever worked in. Likewise the photographer Jacob is just so talented. He explained his vision for each of the models and I executed the hair for him, likewise Mimi the makeup artist really made these girls shine.

Although the shoot ran into late hours, I had a ball. Its really nice to work with an experienced team of models, photographers, wardrobe stylists and of course photographers. I'm excited about the pics for this shoot because I have not had the chance to do some texture looks. Meaning crazy curl, height and wave. The last few shoots I've done have been primarily focused on cut and color. Those shoots were great because it put my haircutting skills to the test. THis shoot was more editorial, high fashion. Lots of full body shots. I'm proud of the work and honored that Jacob found me. We are planning our next shoot already.

Well, the restroom is completely torn out. I have no LOO! Its only for two days, and I am closed on Monday, so its no big deal. The color bar will be coming out, shampoo bowls moved. JD has a great esthetic and I am so grateful for that because he can choose and purchase what will look modern and clean without me needing to approve everything. Its been so difficult to get to the remodel part due to the fact that I'm booked two weeks in advance. So squeezing in Sunday evening and Monday has really made this possible. Poor JD worked until 11:00 PM last night and was here this morning when I showed up! What luck to find a talented contractor whose a nice guy and has wonderful taste.

I'm beginning the interview process for new stylists tomorrow. I had placed an ad on Craigslist and received many resumes. It takes time to sort through the junk vs. the talent. This aspect of running a business is very foreign to me. So I'm doing it the old fashioned way. Checking references and setting up model demo cuts. I figure the only way to know where a stylists skills are is through their work.

We have decided against being rental. This is mainly because I truly wish to create a team of motivated stylists working together for a common goal. Building their clientele and their reputations. And while its more work to set up payroll, commission etc, in the end I want to protect the integrity of the salon as best I can. Most renters are really not interested in the salon. I would rather have less experienced stylists with a desire to grow than renters who do not. Nothing against Rental, but from my interviews so far, they mostly tell me what they wont do. Most seem really unexcited about my products, the size of the salon, etc. Thats cool, theres a place out there for everyone. Fortunately, I do not need the money, I need dedicated people who want to take the gazoodles of clients we turn away daily.

I believe in my heart that the right people will show up. I've only been open for 8 months, so I'm very patient. I'll know when I know.

Upcoming Photo Shoot

2/26/2010

Hello, I will be closing the salon early on Saturday, February 27th. I will be doing hair for a photo shoot with Jacob Easton Photography. I apologize for any inconvenience.

We will open on Sunday with regular hours.

Thank You.

Salon Update

2/23/2010

Finally, we are beginning the remodel on the restroom tomorrow night, followed by the shampoo area, color processing area will be taken out and updated and reception/retail area will be done. Getting all the powers that be to sign on has taken a bit of time, but the go ahead has been given! YAY!

Who knew anyone could be excited about a restroom!

My contractor is an awesome human being and I'm so happy to be working with him. He was referred to me from a great client and I am so thankful.

We will hear if we are getting the space next door by next week. IF that happens, and thats an IF because its out of our control, we will begin pulling permits to demo the bigger space. Its all very exciting and horribly frightening at the same time!

I want to thank my clients from Cirque du Soliel for finding me online! It was a pleasure meeting you and we look forward to watching you work this weekend! Its strange that we may never see each other again, but I loved the cuts and color! And thanks for answering every question under the sun about life with the circus.

We are closing this Saturday at 1:00pm because we have a big photo shoot in the afternoon. Likewise I will be out for two Sundays in March for photo shoots as well.

We are trying not to inconvenience any client, so the construction will take place in the evenings and on Monday. Same with the photo shoots. I hate to close the salon, so I try to make it as manageable for the clients as possible.

We are still searching for the right stylists! Stay tuned!

Construction Progress

2/17/2010

The changes in the salon have been wonderful! It is more spacious and very well lit! Compared to the lighting before construction, I must have been cutting in the dark! The next phase of restroom and electrical upgrade begins Sunday evening.

First the panel box on the exterior of the salon will be juiced up this brings a beautiful 120 amps into my 40 amp space! This gives us the ability to run more than two electrical appliances at a time! Not a very glamorous way to spend money, but heaven for a salon owner! This will be followed by new outlets and more lighting.

Second the restroom will be torn out and a more modern, space appropriate sink, toilet and cabinet will be put in along with beautiful new tile.

Third our awning with the Orange Crush Studios logo is in the process of being made. I did a couple of bids and found that Bay Area Canvas was fair and Chris the owner awesome.

Retail shelving and reception area will follow in the next few days.

Still searching for new stylists. Honestly I did not realize the difficulty I would face hiring qualified staff. But I am patient and know the right people will be here.

What makes a great stylist is their desire to keep learning, the discipline it takes to master a particular cut or technique. Practice, and Practice! If I ever stop learning, I will leave this industry. Even after 25 years I still LOVE what I do. Continuing education keeps any stylist fresh and inspired. I've decided to bring in a "secret agent" to inspire myself and my assistant.

I am hiring a private teacher whose background is so stellar that I am humbled to be with them. My goal is to be the best hairdresser I can be. Likewise I would love to create that for my salon. Its easy to sit back and say I have a salon, I know it all, I do not need to work so hard. Yet doing this would lead to mediocrity, sloppiness and ultimately failure. "DEATH BEFORE MEDIOCRITY"!

Just as an athlete needs a coach, a great stylist needs a mentor. Someone who is much better and someone who can take you to the next level! I hope that I have met that person!

Salon Update

2/11/2010

I've sat down to do this entry four times this week and never got it finished. So once again I am attempting to update the goings on at Orange Crush Studios.

First, a big THANK YOU our loyal clients. To those who took the time to review us on YELP. I just received a window decal from YELP proclaiming "People on Yelp Love Us! Its truly an honor to have such great reviews. As much as I complain about YELP, they do give folks the opportunity to put their two cents worth in about their experiences. I've never asked anyone to review us on YELP, so I am extremely pleased to see that we are doing a good job. I generally take the reviews on YELP with a grain of salt. I suppose there is plenty of opportunity to fabricate reviews and tailor them to show a business in a positive light, however I know we have earned each of those reviews and many more that have disappeared on YELP and I am thankful and humbled by the response to our work. My belief is that everyone should be treated with love and respect. Each client that comes to Orange Crush deserves nothing but our best work. Since we are a modest, low-key, neighborhood salon, we must rely completely on our work and on our customer service. These are the components of a great business.

The salon lighting has been updated. It is fantastic. Likewise, the salon stations have been reconfigured to allow for a more spacious feel. Next we will work on our restroom and finally a new color bar. The salon is finally starting to look and feel like the space I dreamed it to be. It will only get better. I am waiting to get the OK for expansion. We may have the chance to double our size!

Just a reminder to book your appointment as far in advance as possible. Currently we are booked a week in advance and Saturdays and Sundays are booking up two weeks in advance. We are about to start interviewing new talent to handle walk ins and last minute appointments, but currently we cannot take either. The salon is doing so well and we are working feverishly to accommodate the growth. We just ask for your patience and thank you again for all the support.

2010 will be a year of growth and maturation! Its exciting to see all of this happening so quickly and it is a testament to the hard work and dedication to our craft and to our clients. I am living my dream everyday. Our clients are truly loyal and the community of Japan Town has welcomed us graciously. I am confident in the future of Orange Crush Studios.

So Stay Tuned!

Fully Booked this week!

2/2/2010

We are almost fully booked for the week. There are a few appointments left for Thursday, so if you're reading this and thinking you need a quick trim or a touch up, please take advantage of the online booking system and get in soon!

We are in the process of setting up a film date for hair-do how to's. Beginning next week you will be able to view quick tips and easy tricks for styling, drying and creating modern looks with minimal work.

Stay tuned!

Again I would like to thank Kate Moak Photography and Don Roper Studios for the amazing photographs! We have chosen the four we loved and submitted them for entry in the North American Hairstylist Awards. And while we recognize the caliber of competition, it was the process of preparing for the shoot, the team work involved and the generous spirit of each model that really makes doing this so wonderful. While it would be nice to be nominated and fantastic to win, just having the opportunity to work with such great talent makes us winners already.

Its easy for those who never try to judge those who do the work! WE are winners already in my book!

A special thanks to my assistant extraordinaire Trudi Reyes-Ortiz for the hard work, making sure I eat each day and for her true love and dedication to this industry. I can say from the bottom of my heart it is an honor to work with such a devoted person. Oh that I had 5 Trudi's around! Life would be so lovely.

We have another big photo shoot coming up in the next few weeks. With this shoot we are going over-the-top. Our team will consist of a fashion stylist, art director, makeup artist, pro models and the hair team. I've never worked with a fashion/art director, so it great to throw out my ideas and have a pro pic up the look. We will be working with wigs and hair extensions in this shoot for a highly stylized look!

Stay Tuned!

On Saturday we have been invited to The San Francisco Institute of Esthetics and Cosmetology's senior Debut! It is held at DNA Lounge in San Francisco and showcases the work of its graduating class! The show is always amazing!

Happy Monday!

2/1/2010

Last week was one of the busiest weeks I've had at Orange Crush Studios! Thank You to all my new and returning clients for all of your continued support! Some days I look at my schedule and cant believe how many first time clients are finding me. Its a pleasure and an honor!

Met with my contractor JD Slater today. We received the OK from PG&E to upgrade the electrical and bring more power into the salon.

A new black awning with Orange Crush in orange lettering will grace the entrance!

Beginning a week from today he will install new lighting throughout the salon. Additionally the reception/retail area will be redesigned and reconfigured.

Second phase of the construction will include remodeling the restroom, adding storage cabinets, lighting and new tile.

Third phase of the electrical will include a new breaker box with an additional 100 AMPS. This will require permits from the city. When the new box is installed, new electrical will be installed above the stylist stations to connect ceiling mounted blow dryers.

Finally, the shampoo bowl will be moved and new stations added. This will take us to spring/summer.

The Metamorphosis will be very public. We will not interrupt daily salon services. Most of JD's work will happen in the evening.

Never could I have imagined the need to upgrade and redesign the Studio in such a short time. I thought I would have at least a year before I needed to hire employees and prepare to grow. Its still amazing that this is all happening. What a wonderful, wonderful thing!

Our entry for North American Hairstylist Awards has been submitted. As I look at the final cut I beam with pride! No photo shoot is handled by one person. I have the honor of working with an amazing team of people.

Kate Moak Photography

Christina Martin Makeup Artist

Don Roper Photography - Studio

Rasteroids - Tomiko Rast - Director

Trudi Reyes-Ortiz - Orange Crush Studios - Assistant Extraordinaire!

I had the honor of working for the San Francisco Ballet and for The San Jose Rep. and just want to acknowledge them for giving me the trust and for referring their actors and artists to me.

Finally, I want to acknowledge Jack Conway and founder of the Jack Conway Trio and his wife Linda for being such amazing people and for their loyalty and support. They mean so much to me!

Stay Tuned, we are working on how-to videos for hair styling which will be uploaded and hosted via you tube! There are many great ideas in the works! Stay Tuned!

Haiti Report

1/30/2010

We managed to raise 500.00 for the people of Haiti. Our goal was much higher, but we are happy to have the support. There are so many wonderful aid organizations helping the country. Its a drop in the bucket, every dollar counts. Thank You to all of our clients who booked during our Help For Haiti benefit. We are a one of thousands of businesses who have contributed to the revitalization of an incredibly poor country. Our prayers our with the people of Haiti and may our 500.00 multiply and grow to help as many people as we can. Thank You!

Art Opening, Photo Shoot and Ballet

1/18/2010

The art opening for Eugenia Chin and Dan Kouba was a sweet success. We had 60 plus people in the salon last night to celebrate. The evening was wonderful. Their show "Draughtworks in Light" will be on display for 8 weeks, so for those interested, please stop by and check it out.

We completed the shoot for North American Hairstylist Awards today. I would like to thank Kate Moak, my photographer, Christina Martin my amazing makeup artist, my assistant Trudi Reyes-Ortiz my dynamic assistant and all four of my wonderful models. Oh, and Dan Roper from Dan Roper Photography for the use of his awesome, decked out studio. A shoot like this takes an army. While many people think that editorial work is glamorous, it is also extraordinarily hard work. Tedious, time consuming and intense. Without the complete participation of everyone, and without everyone's discipline and patience, a shoot like this could never happen. I am blessed to have such talented people to work with. Everything went smoothly, the models were incredible and Kate has talent beyond description. I love that I met her, I love that she is so devoted to her craft and I love that her talent brings my hard work to life. THey say third time is a charm, and I think this might be a charm! Even without the NAHA entry I am still proud of this shoot. The colors and cuts are so striking that I cant believe it came from me. Especially the color. This is the first shoot where I have done my own color. I will enter in the color category as well as another cut and style category. Christina will be entered in the makeup category, one I think she has a strong chance of winning. I feel so confident with this shoot. It truly was a labor of love. No one gets paid, everyone works for the love of what they do. That is passion.

The San Francisco Ballet begins dress rehearsal for "Swan Lake" on Thursday morning. I will be working the entire run, so the salon will be closed two weekends in a row. I know its inconvenient, but I will be back. We will do 14 shows, with two shows on weekends. The show ends on January 31. I will work weekdays, but will close early during show week. That means I'll be out of the salon at 4:00pm on weekdays and closed for two weekends.

Finally, Thank You to everyone who received a haircut this last weekend. You contributed to the relief effort in Haiti. We donated 30 from each color service and 20 dollars from each cut. I'm not sure what the total is, but I will have it by mid week. I am grateful I have the ability to help. Thank You.

Count Down to Monday!

1/15/2010

Worked till 9:00 pm last night on one of the four models for the upcoming photo shoot! I believe it is some of my best work and can honestly say I am so proud! The shoot will be amazing.

Everything is now coordinated. Our photographer Kate Moak is set, Christina Martin our makeup artist is sketching away at the concept, models are prepped, studio is booked and my amazing assistant Trudi is rearing to go. All of the preparation has paid off.

The salon is fully booked for the next three days, so finishing touches, if there are any will be done on Monday morning. We decided to move the call time to 8:00 AM from 10:00 AM to give us plenty o' time.

In preparation for the Artists Reception for "Droughtworks in Light" on Sunday, we will be taking down the previous show. Dan and Eugenia will be hanging their work on Saturday evening.

Received final schedule for SF Ballets "Swan Lake". First dress rehearsal is Thursday at 11:45 AM. There will be two shows a day for Thurs, Fri, Sat, with a total of 16 shows in all. I will be staying in San Francisco the first 3 days due to the back to back shows. Opening night is Saturday January 23rd. Richard Battle is overseeing hair and makeup for this show and I'm extremely excited to work with such a legend. It is truly an honor to continue to be called to work for the San Francisco Ballet and the San Francisco Opera. And while its a challenge to manage my schedule for the salon, its worth all the hard work to see the dancers go on stage. Working with such extraordinary talent is awe inspiring. Every show I learn something new, every show I take home a new skill that I try to incorporate into my day to day work behind the chair. A client asked if I will ever give up working in the salon and just concentrate on theater. There is no way I could. Theater work is certainly creative and inspiring, however at heart I will always be a hairdresser. I am fortunate to do both for now and never take for granted the opportunities that I receive.

We have posted an ad on Craigslist in search of dynamic new talent. The business is exploding with new clients. So much so that we are feverishly working to keep up. At first I thought is was because we were new. Then I thought oh its just because of the holidays. Now I recognize that its not an anomaly; we are simply growing. We are excited about bringing new stylists on board. We are equally excited about the wonderful changes the salon will be going through. And as much as I would like to shift gears into overdrive, I am well aware of the consequences of growing too fast. One step at a time.

The Relief for Haiti is now in its second day. By Sunday we hope to have raised $1,000. This might be a bit too ambitious, but its our goal none-the-less. Thank you to every client who has given a bit more than the price of the service. Even a modest amount of money can work miracles in a country like Haiti.

HAITI RELIEF

1/14/2010

The salon is fully booked for the next four days. Our goal is to raise $1,000 dollars for Haiti Relief. zWe are off to a great start! Thank you to all the awesome clients who have booked your appointments for this weekend. You are contributing to disaster relief in one of the poorest countries in the world.

The images of the disaster in Haiti are startling. Bodies laying covered on the sidewalk, neighborhoods and towns completely destroyed, mourning families who cannot find their relatives. It cuts to the core of what it means to be a living being. Losing everything and have no one to turn to only spotlights how important it is to give back to the world.

And while we are only a small, neighborhood salon, our clients and staff have the power to create change. We are fortunate and blessed to have everything in abundance in this country. Our gift is small, but in Haiti our gift will go a long way.

Thank You.

A Great Day at The San Francisco Institute

1/13/2010

We just returned from our morning presentation for the Future Professionals at The San Francisco Institute of Esthetics and Cosmetology. What a great day!

We presented cut and color techniques on two models incorporating block color and precision cutting. The students where awesome, engaging and attentive. Each of them represented the future of the hairdressing industry and we were struck by their sense of professionalism.

The Institute is a Paul Mitchell Partner School and gives the students both technical and professional skills to succeed in the modern salon industry.

On behalf of the staff and our models, we wish to thank DeeDee Carlson, Jeannie Hannert, Robyn Parish, Tony Coleman and the rest of the Learning Leaders at SFIEC for having us. Its inspiring to see such dedication to success.

In case you have not noticed, the salon is booking up. Due to the outstanding success of our Online booking program people are finding their way to Orange Crush. Thank you to every client and please, if you cannot get an appointment soon, just check back often, we do have cancellations every-so-often. Likewise, feel free to phone the salon anytime to confirm your appointment.

Due to rapid growth, we are currently interviewing for full time stylists. When we have the perfect candidate, we will announce it via the website. As I said in past blog entries, we are working with a general and electrical contractor to expand the salon and bring more power to the building. There are lengthy permit processes when dealing with the city of San Jose, so things can move slowly. But we are working to make Orange Crush Studios a dynamic, bustling salon. None of the upgrading will effect the day-to-day operations of the salon. Stay Tuned!

The staff at Orange Crush Studios will donate $20 from every haircut and $30 from every color service completed from Thursday January 13th to Sunday January 17th.

The level of destruction this country has experienced is incomprehensible. Our hearts and prayers go out to the people of this fragile country.

Should anyone wish to drop in and make a donation, we will be accepting checks made out to Catholic Relief Services. We believe this non-profit to be sincere and dedicated to the people they serve. Feel free to stop by the salon anytime and we'll be happy to make a donation on your behalf.

Sharing Our Knowledge

1/11/2010

The staff at Orange Crush Studios are honored to be guest speakers for The San Francisco Institute of Esthetics and Cosmetology.

On Wednesday January 13 the entire staff will head to San Francisco to present cut and color techniques for the Future Professionals at SFIEC. There is nothing more fulfilling than to share our knowledge with upcoming stylists.

We believe that only through education can one grow their skills. Our 3 hour lecture, demonstration will incorporate cutting edge color and cutting and makeup techniques performed on three models.

This week is also prep week for our North American Hairstylist Awards shoot coming up in a few weeks. Time is flying by, so I am meeting with our Makeup Artist Christina Martin today to create the "look" for the shoot. Additionally, we will be creating a men's portfolio shoot and a bridal looks shoot coming in February.

Due to the work for "Swan Lake", the salon will be closing early the last week of January and closing all day on the 21st, 22nd 23rd and 24th. I apologize for this but I feel it vital to continue my work with the San Francisco Ballet and San Francisco Opera. The inspiration I get from my theater work I bring back to the salon and ultimately to the clients and staff of Orange Crush Studios.

Swan Lake Salon Closure

1/10/2010

Just got the schedule for San Francisco Ballet's "Swan Lake". I will be doing hair and makeup for the entire run. Most weekend shows are two shows per day, as such the salon will be closed a few Saturdays and Sundays. I apologize for this, but its an honor to work for the ballet. I believe that having such wonderful opportunities really inspires both me, my staff and my clients.

Will be back in full salon swing beginning Feb. 1.

Thanks to everyone.

Welcome to 2010

1/8/2010

Its been some time since I've been able to sit down and organize my thoughts long enough to write a proper blog entry.

November and December where stellar months for Orange Crush Studios. I want to say to each of our clients Thank You so much for your trust, support and patronage. We are truly honored and humbled to have such growth in our business and it would not be possible without you.

Finished with The San Francisco Ballets production of "The Nutcracker" on the 27th of December. It was a pleasure to work with everyone in San Francisco again. I look forward to seeing you for "Swan Lake".

Finished "Cinderella" with Opera San Jose. As always, I am so happy to work with such great hair and makeup artists. Cant wait for "Marriage of Figaro".

I have two photo shoots coming up this month which I am extremely excited about. The first is for North American Hairstylist Awards. I'm shooting with Kate Moak again and thats always a pleasure.

The second is a mens shoot. Hopefully in January, but it might get pushed to February depending on the Opera.

The salon is about to undergo a transformation. The electrical is being upgraded to handle more capacity, new multi-layer lighting is going in, and the reception/retail area is being completely revamped. I'm working with an awesome contractor, however city inspectors will probably slow the process.

When I opened the salon 7 months ago, my goal was simply to create a pretty place where I could do the work I love. I could not have dreamed that the salon would take off so quickly. Now we are working to expand and accommodate our clients while maintaining the quality and integrity you have come to expect.

Stay tuned for the beautiful changes coming in 2010.

Happy Day After Christmas

12/26/2009

We are truly happy to be back in the salon completely healthy and looking forward to a wonderful New Year, New Decade!

The Online Appointment Scheduler is now up and running. My amazing web developer Bill at ComVirtual has custom built a program that allows clients for Orange Crush Studios to book their appointments via the web. We encourage ALL clients to take advantage of this function. It will allow you to look at the stylist schedule and determine all available time openings without having to phone the salon. Simply choose your service and commit to the time slot and you will receive confirmation via email. Its simple and convenient.

Its been a remarkable 6 months. The salon has become so busy so quickly it has really helped us determine where we need to focus our development. As such we have chosen the scheduling. Since we are a small salon with no receptionist, having a smooth, secure appointment booking program was key to making sure each client is given attention.

Thank You to Every client of Orange Crush Studios. We recognize that without your support we would not be here! Please stay tuned for more great changes on the horizon.
